It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
