Monarch to Deliver Intimate Statement on His Health Battle in TV Broadcast

King Charles has recorded a first-hand account concerning his battle with cancer, scheduled for transmission as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer initiative, organised by medical research organisations and a television broadcaster.

Official sources said the King would discuss his "healing process" as a cancer patient, in a recorded address on this Friday at the evening slot.

The recording, recorded at Clarence House recently, will emphasise the importance of preventative health checks to increase the likelihood more people detect the disease at an early stage.

This represents a infrequent public commentary on the health of the Monarch, who has been receiving ongoing care since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. But it is thought improbable the King will disclose his specific form of cancer.

Awareness Core Mission

The Stand Up To Cancer campaign each year collects money for medical research and patient care and encourages people to get screenings to increase the odds of an early diagnosis.

The King's candid approach about his health challenge, and living with cancer, has been aimed to increase understanding and to persuade more people to get screened - and this will be escalated with this unusual royal involvement.

Up until now the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to continue his schedule, upholding a busy schedule in spite of his frequent sessions of therapy, and he is understood not to have desired to be defined by his condition.

Recently has seen the 77-year-old Monarch, embarking on several international tours, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and receiving the biggest number of official guests to the UK for almost 40 years, featuring the German president last week.

Friday's Evening Programme

The upcoming awareness broadcast on the network, hosted by well-known figures like a team of famous hosts, will encourage people not to be afraid of getting health screenings.

The hosts have been had experience with cancer - McCall revealed in November she had had an operation for the disease, while Balding was overcame a thyroid condition over a decade ago. Comedian Hills has previously discussed his parent, who had stomach cancer and then later another illness.

The programme will reach out to the estimated nine million people in the UK who charities state are not up to date with national health programmes, with an website to let people check if they are able for tests for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.

In an attempt to demystify screenings and demonstrate the importance of early diagnosis there will be a real-time transmission from cancer clinics at Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth hospitals in Cambridge.

"My aim is to take the fear surrounding health checks and prove the public that they are not on their own in this," commented Davina McCall.

The Landscape of National Services

Currently in the UK, there are a number of NHS cancer screening programmes - for major health concerns - offered to specific demographics.

A new lung cancer screening programme is also being gradually implemented for people at increased risk of contracting the illness, specifically targeting people in a specific age bracket, who are smokers or were former smokers.

Male patients may request prostate screenings, but there is lacking a standardised service currently available.

Funding Research

The charity campaign, which has generated a significant sum since 2012, is funding 73 research studies encompassing thousands of patients.

King Charles, in a message for attendees at a reception for related organisations in April, had referred to recognising the "intimidating and at times scary reality" for patients and their families.

But he stated his experience of coping with cancer had demonstrated that "the darkest moments of disease can be brightened by the greatest compassion," as he praised those who cared for individuals with the illness.

The Palace has not disclosed the specific type of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has been given. The King's cancer was identified after he had had a medical treatment.
