🔗 Share this article Admittedly, it's Packed with Gibberish, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Psychobabble. But I Do Love Meghan's Holiday Special. No matter the time of year, it's always fair game for criticism on the Duchess of Sussex's televisual offering, With Love, Meghan. Critics, from seasoned journalists to online pundits, have rarely been so united as when gleefully ripping the lifestyle show's earlier episodes to shreds. The general consensus held that a more egregious regal scandal had hardly ever taken place than the notorious snack re-labeling incident. Currently, like a merry renegade master, she makes a comeback with a new offering with a "Holiday Celebration" (also known as a Christmas special). However on this occasion, things have shifted. The usual elements audiences anticipate – vague self-help platitudes, extreme hosting – remain, but set of a holiday show, it all clicks into place. The pieces have fallen perfectly; it's a flawless festive blizzard. Now, Meghan resembles the oddball family member at Christmas celebrations everywhere – providing unsolicited, unnecessary advice, and supplying the odd random outburst. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's a bit of a character, but her aura is known and unexpectedly soothing. And she seems pleased; she's inflicting any harm. She is aware her all subtle gestures, utterance and gaze will be dissected and scrutinized, but manages to seem relaxed and too blessed to be stressed. Maybe this is the initial instance in history where that clichéd phrase – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – could actually be true. The reason is, let's face it, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is delightful. Granted, it's all awkwardly over-the-top, nonsense and flamboyant – but doesn't that represent just what Yuletide is all about? And the words she speaks might be laughable, but the walk she's walking genuinely looks shop-bought. Whatever she sets her mind to, she pulls off with style. Her cooking looks tasty, the festive decoration she makes is gorgeous, her presents are almost too pretty to unwrap. Nothing is average or aesthetically displeasing – including the way she secures her apron is creative and fashionable. She doesn't throw a meal in the oven, it "takes a twirl", and she creases gift paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself from start to finish. How could any skeptical viewer not be charmed, overcome by festive joy and left with a powerful yearning for crafted festive snaps or a vegetable display where greens is organized in the form of a wreath? Meghan was once an actress for a living, obviously, but despite that, after the level of attention she has endured since she met Prince Harry, even a hypothetical offspring of two legendary actresses would have difficulty behaving this genuinely. Her refusal to alter or even moderate her routine, despite it being so relentlessly, globally mocked, is strangely reassuring. In our unpredictable world, here is one thing we can rely on: Meghan will stay true to form, come what may. We will always know our position with her. If you're remaining skeptical of her message, a point that will undoubtedly come as a reassurance: you aren't required to. We don't have mandatory conscription these days, and should it be reinstated, it would be unlikely to include viewing With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, on the other hand, you decide to tune in and are overcome with longing about her flawless Christmas, there is hope either. Whether you're a royal or a data administrator, hardly any child completely grasps the dedication and labor their mum does in the holiday season. So you can take heart by imagining the young royals' faces when they reveal a handwritten message that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a homemade Advent calendar, rather than a sweet treat.
